... on #168 "It's a Wonderfully Shitty Life" Well, I decided not to wait a year to do this one. I got the idea for this one watching a DVD of the movie on Christmas Day, and smacked myself for not thinking of it earlier. I ended up doing it anyways because I don't have the patience to wait a year, and I don't do nearly enough parodies as it is. It was a bit of a blast to work in B&W ... it's so much easier than color, though I feel it is a little plainer than colour. The reason for doing it in B&W, is, obviously, because the original movie was in B&W. ... Link hard, December 26, 2002 at 8:02:32 PM JST ... on #167 "Scientific Erotican II" The second time for the thread "Scientific Erotican", with a guest appearance by Kevin Lee. I had one person in the survey beg me for no more Kevin Lee, looks like you're shit out of luck pal. I guess I can talk about the three scientists. None of them have names yet, I haven't got that far. Sometimes what happens is I create characters but don't give them names until it's absolutely necessary to do so. Touro (in the Madame X thread) is one. Mark didn't have a name for a long time, until someone wanted to do a guest strip and asked me, "What the hell IS his name anyways?" The two hecklers in the Madame X thread STILL don't have names, though the guy on the right is alwarys referred to as "the swearing friend". When I had a character page way back, they were known as "Touro's Friend #1" and "Touro's Friend #2". I will probably NEVER name them. The main scientist was first designed by Yuki (she also designed some of the clothes for the giggling "kawaii" girls in #137). After her design I made a few changes, like adding a necktie and removing his eyes. I wanted him to kind of remind people of Dr. Bunsen from The Muppet Show. Yuki says the result looks nothing like she drew, though I admit the final character design wouldn't be what it is if it weren't for her initial sketches. The other guy who hasn't said a word yet is "the brother of the guy from Sunday Morning Coffee." I liked drawing Tim (Tim and Lisa were my designs), and since Tim moved to Tang's Weekly, I wanted to have a Tim-like character in the strip. I like drawing that face. His face is definately inspired by a muppet. There'S nothing to say about the female lead yet. It's part Lisa Fung and part Generic Hard Character. I'm sure as time goes by their personalities will come out, like the guys in the "Madame X" thread eventually did. ... In the next entry you can see my spoiled attempt at a Christmas comic. It just didn't work. Last night at 10 O'clock I got a GREAT idea for a Chistmas comic involving a parody of a well known Christmas movie but alas it was too late, Christmas was over. Maybe next year, I have the DVD. In any case, Merry Christmas. I hope you and your loved ones are enjoying good health. Stay warm! (Stay cool! to my Australian readers) ... Thanks to everyone who completed the survey. I'll get to the results after Christmas. With almost 150 entries, the results I've read so far have been quite interesting and entertaining. Thank you very much! I'm going to burn the midnight oil for a Christmas update for you guys. See ya tomorrow! ... Link |
